SACO set to start European Union Horizon 2020 Project

Severn Subsea Prototype Demo
Subsea Prototype Demo Smart Actuator

In July 2015 The Smart Actuator Company (SACO) will begin their Horizon 2020 Project to scale up and scale down their first Medium ‘Smartact®-1’ Actuator. This was the first product to be released to market containing a RIFT Technology motor drive.

As part of the Project they have engaged with ‘Collaborative Partners’ who will work with them on the design and specification of the Small and Large actuators over the next 2 years. These industry leading companies have all committed to give their time and expertise to the Project and will in return gain preferential access to the new products when they come to market. One of these partners, Severn Subsea (www.severnst.com) of Redruth, Cornwall (part of the Severn Glocon Group of Gloucester, go to www.severnglocon.com) had an early preview of a unit being designed for another application which might form a starting point for the new Large Unit for them to use in their Subsea work.

This prototype was designed with ‘fracking gas’ well head control in mind but has many of the features included that would benefit the Severn Subsea customers.

Both companies are well aware of the amount of work that will need to be done to produce the right product for the Subsea clients and have begun to set out their plans to ensure mutual success.
